The department's objective is to provide basic
knowledge of economics and to demonstrate the value of economic
considerations for the preservation of ecosystems, for nature
conservation, and for recreation.
The emphasis is on the on the analysis of economical matters (costs,
financing, economical assessment, evaluation of instruments) in
governmental conservation policy, land use and water policy.
Approaches from Institutional Economics are being used to analyse the
development of policy in these areas, with a focus on international
comparison. They are linked to political sciences as well as to
sociological and legal approaches.
The teaching predominantly adressses students of the Bsc Landscape Architecture and Planning and in the Msc Environmental Planning. However, many courses are also open as electives for students in other programs, i.e. in the Urband and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, and the Landscape Architecture Program.
